Revenue will always be king

Revenue will always be king.
It’s the one metric businesses can’t ignore.
And unless design leaders can link their work to revenue or profit, their “seat at the table” isn’t really a seat - it’s a highchair.
The problem
Too many “Heads of Design” are hired for craft, not leadership.
They might be excellent designers, but if they can’t connect outcomes to business impact, the title gets inflated while the role stays executional.
That’s why design in so many organizations still gets treated as aesthetics or “nice-to-haves.”
Either leaders lack the business acumen to prove impact - or they’re set up to fail with no real authority.
The result
- Design teams without true advocates
- Companies missing the chance to turn design into a genuine strategic advantage
For me, that’s been the main driver behind pursuing my MBA: to bridge that gap between design practice and business strategy.
Because until design can consistently prove impact in business terms, it won’t be treated as a business driver.
And if design isn’t a driver, it’s just decoration.
